Epic Games Store - What's Free Now?

Absolute Drift and Rage 2 are free on the Epic Games Store from 18th February 2021! Before you pick them up, here’s what I think about them.

Here are the games currently free of charge on the Epic Games Store. These are typically only around for a week, so if you see anything you like the look of you’d better move fast before they disappear!

Epic Games Store: Free Games – 18th February 2021

Absolute Drift

Regular viewers of mine will already know that I really loved Absolute Drift when it came out in… 2015? It was almost 6 years ago? Jeez. But yes, I enjoyed it a lot. A minimalist graphical style, almost papercraft in appearance, with a soundtrack that slaps and plenty of cars to skid around. It’s an open world but in order to reach certain areas you need to complete challenges – things like drifting around obstacles or jumping over buildings. The driving physics are a bit too slippy for anything other than drifting, but Absolute Drift knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to be anything else. I also love the follow-up from Funselektor – Art of Rally.

Rage 2

I’m not gonna lie. Rage is one of these games that I’d definitely have played if someone gave it to me, but not one that I really know anything about. It’s a joint project between id Software and Avalanche Studios, developer of current channel favourite Generation Zero. Open world, apocalypse, FPS, so far so standard. But that’s not neccesarily a bad thing. The Apex engine (Gen Zero and Second Extinction both use it) is beautiful – I’d encourage you to watch my Gen Zero series to see some examples of the lighting.

And sometimes it’s just nice to turn off your brain and shoot some stuff 😀
