Epic Games Store - What's Free Now?

Elite Dangerous & The World Next Door are free on the Epic Games Store from 19th November 2020! Before you pick them up, here’s what I think about them.

Here are the games currently free of charge on the Epic Games Store. These are typically only around for a week, so if you see anything you like the look of you’d better move fast before they disappear!

Epic Games Store: Free Games – 19th November 2020

Elite Dangerous

As someone who was a teenager when the 6 Degrees of Freedom games started to appear in 3D (I’m looking at you, Fury3), I should be all over Elite Dangerous. Space travel is fascinating and I’m definitely not going to do that in my lifetime IRL. But at the same time, I’m reluctant to put time into any game that requires a huge amount of grind to see any progress. And I don’t mean “grind” as in “repeating the same task over and over for small gains” this time – I mean just playing one game exclusively as a second job. I played an MMO for 9 years and there was a reason I gave it up.

Of course, if I’m wrong about Elite Dangerous and you can just dip in and out while still having a good time, I will absolutely jump on it.

The world Next Door

An anime game I might actually like? What’s going on?! Apparently The World Next Door is a bit of top-down adventure, a bit of visual novel and a bit of match 3. Two of those genres wouldn’t have done it for me, but the combination of them all really has my attention. Match 3 with a character you control in the physical world sounds interesting too. So I’ll definitely be trying this one!
