Epic Games Store: Free Games – 10th September 2020
Railway Empire (which I keeping thinking is called Railroad Empire for some reason) is a fun take on the railway management genre. You start out in a small town with a single engine and lofty goals. Like most games in this genre, you need to look for good trade routes and profitable passenger routes. There’s a good number of steam engines available to unlock and the level of detail is awesome. I was a train nerd as a kid so this still appeals to me. And even better, it has a camera option where you can actually ride in your own train as it drives its route. Nice. The only real downside is that it’s very America-focused. There’s other county’s train available as DLC, but nothing in the base game.
Where the Water Tastes Like Wine
Where the Water Tastes Like Wine is apparently a game about travelling. I haven’t actually played it, but I saw a lot of people talking about it when it came out a couple of years ago. Set in the US during the Depression, you play as one of 16 characters travelling all over the country. I don’t think it’s quite a walking simulator, but it seems like it has quite a lof of stuff to discover at your own pace. Just weird enough to be my kind of thing. And IIRC it has a great Americana soundtrack too. Sweet.
