Epic Games Store: Free Games – 13th August 2020
Remnant: From The Ashes
The Souls-like “genre” (we’ll get into that another time) is a tough one. So many games do the same thing but put a new skin on it. Remnant: From the Ashes turns the 3rd person action RPG into a shooter, and actually gets it right! I haven’t played it (yet) but with a 78 on Metacritic and 86% positive on Steam, Gunfire Games seem to have done something genuinely great with the concept. I wanted to play it at launch but couldn’t. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it now!
The Alto Collection
I enjoyed Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey when I played them on mobile, so combining the two games for a PC release seems like a smart way to see the whole game. The Alto games are endless side-scrollers where you ski down mountains and over obstacles. It’s the art style that really got me interested – your scarf flaps beautifully behind you – but the controls are great too. For a mobile game it’s great, although it gets repetitive way more quickly than games like Temple Run. I don’t know if they have enough actual content to justify the PC release, but maybe you disagree. Now you can check it out and let me know yourself!
