Jurassic World Evolution

I’m conflicted about Jurassic World Evolution. I love most Paradox strategy/management games, it looks great and I love that some of the original actors provide voices for it. On the other hand, when I first picked it up I eflt like it took a long time to actually get going. The tutorial is very slow, especially for anyone who has played one of these types of games before. Which is strange, because apparently the tutorial also misses out some important bits of late-game content.

But as well as my (admittedly after not much play time) opinions, reviews for Jurassic World Evolution are all over the place. Some places liked it, but others found the actual strategy and management elements lacking. Which makes me a bit sad.

But it’s not that surprising if you think about it. The reason that Jurassic Park is a good movie is because things go wrong. If Dr Malcolm et al had gone there and the trip went without a hiccup, the movie would’ve been really dull. But in a management game, you’re trying to make the system work properly. The dinosaurs do escape in-game, but it seems like it was a bit of an afterthought since it’s resolved very quickly and without much impact to your plans. Probably worth picking up for free (or as part of a bundle, which is how I got my copy), but not one that neccesarily needs to go to the top of your play list.
