Today’s free game in the 15 Days of Free Games is Stranded Deep. You can find out if it’s worth picking up right here!
This year for Christmas, Epic is doing 15 days of free games, with each title only being available for 24 hours. Here’s today’s offering as well as what I think about it!
Epic Games Store: 15 Days of Free Games – 28th December 2020
Survival games, huh? It’s hard to make any one of them stand out these days. I don’t really understand what’s supposed to be so special about Stranded Deep, but let’s go into what I can tell you. It’s set on a tropical island (check) with a dynamic day and night cycle (check) and you need to manage the standard hunger, thirst and sleep (check).
One of the main features I can point to that sets Stranded Deep apart is how limited your carrying inventory is. On top of that, you can use a boat to travel between islands, which is pretty cool. There are multiple biomes across the map, with each one offering different resources for building and surviving. There are also some pop culture references to the movie Cast Away, and I always love me some pop culture references!
But again it’s hard to get super excited about a 5 year old game (although it only hit consoles in 2020) in a saturated genre. Worth picking up, but not one that’ll be at the top of my to-do list.
