Epic Games Store: 15 Days of Free Games – 27th December 2020
Night In The Woods
Night in the Woods is a 2D side-scrolling adventure game that was a blinding success on Kickstarter in 2013, long before Kickstarter was seen as a viable route to market, although it didn’t actually release until 2017. It has a heavy focus on narrative with a rich story, covering a lot of challenging subjects like depression, mental illness and the decline of small town America.
The art style is fantastic, with a very flat 2D look that I think probably makes the tougher storylines easier to manage. I don’t know if that’s intentional, or if it’s just a coincidence, but either way it works.
Night in the Woods got plenty of end of year awards back in 2017, winning a bunch of them. So it’s obviously good. I haven’t played it myself, but I watched a full YouTube let’s play back in the day (Baertaffy I think) and I really enjoyed it.
It has multiple story branches, meaning that even if you watched someone play it there’s still a reason to go back and play it yourself. So now you’ll have the chance to do that for free!
