Today’s free game in the 15 Days of Free Games is Metro 2033: Redux. You can find out if it’s worth picking up right here!
This year for Christmas, Epic is doing 15 days of free games, with each title only being available for 24 hours. Here’s today’s offering as well as what I think about it!
Epic Games Store: 15 Days of Free Games – 22nd December 2020
Metro 2033: Redux
The Metro 2033 games are awesome. They simulataneously capture what was great about STALKER (what happened to that sequel anyway?) while also making the threat a bit more monstrous. It’s based on a book that I haven’t read, but from what I understand they did a good job converting that into a game. The game is very claustrophobic since you’re mainly stuck in the tunnels of Moscow’s underground, and enemies are both tough and smart.
Unfortunately Metro 2033 also has the annoying trope of having a torch battery that lasts 2 seconds, and that annoys me in any game. It has a lot of survival mechanics that I like and it’s a lot slower paced than most FPS games from that era, so that’s cool too.
But this is also a game that Epic gave away last year, so it’s hard to get super excited about it unless you missed it the first time. If you did though, jump on it. It’s definitely worth it.
