You can find out if it’s worth picking up right here! This year for Christmas, Epic is doing 15 days of free games, with each title only being available for 24 hours. Here’s today’s offering as well as what I think about it!

Cities: Skylines

The last Sim City game was an absolute mess, so it’s really useful that Collossal Order and Paradox came along with a great alternative. I love the way it looks, with the cool tilt-shifted camera style. And the mechanics are all super strong. I inevitably fail due to trying to expand too fast with a low-pollution city, but the fact the game lets me try says a lot about how freeform it all is.

The only real complaint I have about Cities: Skylines is how much DLC there is. Stuff that should (probably) have been included from the start is tucked away behind paid extras. From trivial stuff like new radio stations, right up to things like music concerts and sports stadiums. That stuff should have been part of the base game and it annoys me that even though 1989 Sim City had it, you need to pay more to get it.

Of course, if you get the game for free then I guess that leaves some cash to spend on the rest of it? But I don’t like encouraging that kind of behaviour.
