Twitch: The New Normal

I’ve been away from Twitch for a while, so I thought I’d write about what’s been happening to bring you all up to speed. It’s been a fun ride.

Note: This is a copy of something I wrote on Patreon, so you might have seen it already!

The Story So Far…

If you follow me on Twitter (and you definitely should), you’ll know that I’ve been having issues with Virgin Media since the beginning of March. This has led to upload rates that don’t sustain Twitch streams or video calls and made our broadband service barely usable. I have a complaint with CISAS and have been offered compensation, but the problem is ongoing. I will not be accepting the offer đŸ¤Ŧ

Getting Back To It

However, not being able to stream has really hurt my channel growth and I’ve noticed followers slowly slipping away. I’ve tried everything to get around it, but the only thing that seems to have worked is moving to VBR. That way, when the connection craps out at least the stream doesn’t die. The quality is bad but we’re still connected 🤷‍♂ī¸ My Affiliate anniversary is coming up and I need to get back online or I’m going to lose it ☚ī¸

It worked okay for testing last week, so I’m going to try a normal stream this week and actually promote it like I used to. I’m incredibly out of practice at this point, so bear with me while I find my feet.

On the plus side, I’ve had time to set up new alerts (I hope they work!) and get a more consistent look across my socials. Should be good.

I’m thinking of moving my stream evening to Wednesday instead of Thursday (with a couple of daytime streams coming later!) so there are big changes on the way.

Let’s see what happens together! I miss you guys 😍
